Lead Researcher: Dr Declan Dagger, research fellow at KDEG, Trinity College, Dublin as part of the SFI funded CNGL project.

Overview: This study is carried out on the twitter micro-blogging social networking site found at twitter.com. The objective of this study is to investigate the capabilities and limitations of machine translation technology in limited character/language context environments. The study lays a foundation for further research into the application of adaptive technologies to personalise machine translation workflows. Results will be published in accredited scientific venues.

Declaration

  • I am 18 years or older and am competent to provide consent.
  • I have read this consent form. I have had the opportunity to ask questions and all my questions have been answered to my satisfaction and understand the description of the research that is being provided to me.
  • I agree that my data is used for scientific purposes and I have no objection that my data is published in scientific publications in a way that does not reveal my identity.
  • I freely and voluntarily agree to be part of this research study, though without prejudice to my legal and ethical rights.
  • I understand that I may withdraw at any time by emailing Declan.Dagger@cs.tcd.ie indicating that you wish to withdraw from participation.
  • I understand that my participation is not anonymous and that limited personal details (twitter username) about me will be recorded.
  • I understand that if I or anyone in my family has a history of epilepsy then I am proceeding at my own risk.
  • I have received a copy of this agreement.

Our dos and donts:

  • We DO NOT ACCESS OR STORE your login credentials. We use twitter OAuth for secure sign in. This ensures the security and integrity of your account.
  • We DO REQUIRE READ ACCESS to your twitter account to retrieve your user display details and your tweet stream. We DO REQUIRE WRITE ACCESS to enable you to post a tweet to twitter from the twanslate app ONLY.
  • We DO NOT post application specific or marketing tweets to your stream (hopefully, if you like this application you will let your friends know).
  • For the tweets which you translate, we DO STORE the source tweet, the selected destination language, the translated tweet, your vote on whether you thought the translation was accurate or not and your comments. We DO NOT store the tweets which you do not translate.
